The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were East Japan Railway Co. (TYO:9020), which rose 4.23% or 305.00 points to trade at 7,520.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (TYO:5713) added 3.93% or 174.00 points to end at 4,596.00 and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107) was up 3.60% or 290.00 points to 8,350.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261), which fell 3.80% or 47.00 points to trade at 1,189.00 at the close. Subaru Corp (TYO:7270) declined 2.73% or 72.50 points to end at 2,580.00 and SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (TYO:9412) was down 2.51% or 14.00 points to 544.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1818 to 1612 and 339 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.74% to 19.15.
Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.75% or 0.66 to $88.44 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.73% or 0.69 to hit $94.69 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.28% or 4.95 to trade at $1,735.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.40% to 142.26, while EUR/JPY fell 0.12% to 144.35.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 107.79.
