Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.16%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.16%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:CUV), which rose 16.19% or 2.81 points to trade at 20.17 at the close. Meanwhile, Zip Co Ltd (ASX:ZIP) added 11.70% or 0.10 points to end at 0.95 and Mesoblast Ltd (ASX:MSB) was up 8.92% or 0.07 points to 0.86 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX:PBH), which fell 11.85% or 0.39 points to trade at 2.90 at the close. Mineral Resources Ltd (ASX:MIN) declined 5.87% or 3.99 points to end at 63.97 and Tabcorp Holdings Ltd (ASX:TAH) was down 4.95% or 0.05 points to 0.96.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 769 to 619 and 376 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.89% to 15.15.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.18% or 3.15 to $1,733.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.12% or 0.11 to hit $91.53 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.12 to trade at $97.72 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.50% to 0.69, while AUD/JPY rose 0.32% to 95.39.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 108.83.
