Key Words: Lindsey Graham warns ‘there will be riots in the streets’ if Trump is prosecuted

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham predicted that rioting will ensue if former President Donald Trump is prosecuted by the FBI for his handling of classified materials that were found at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home after an FBI raid.

“If there’s a prosecution of Donald Trump for mishandling classified information, after the Clinton debacle, which you presided over and did a hell of a good job, there’ll be riots in the streets,” Graham told former South Carolina congressman Trey Gowdy, who now is a Fox News TV host. Gowdy was chair of the House Intelligence committee in 2015 when Hillary Clinton testified in front of that panel about the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya.

And Trump also posted a clip of Graham’s interview on his social media platform Truth Social on Sunday. The clip went viral, and led “Lindsey Graham” and “Truth Social” to trend on Twitter through Monday morning.

Earlier in August, FBI agents recovered dozens of “top secret” documents from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida. A heavily redacted copy of the FBI affidavit explained that the search recovered: 184 documents with classification markings, 25 documents marked “top secret,” 67 documents marked “confidential” and 92 documents marked “secret.” The Justice Department is investigating Trump’s handling of classified material and presidential records.

After the search, Trump claimed “ALL documents have been previously declassified,” but has yet to produce evidence to support that declaration. Last week, his lawyers asked a federal judge to halt the FBI’s review of the documents until a neutral special master can be appointed to inspect the records.

Graham was recently subpoenaed, himself, in a separate probe surrounding Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Graham has been ordered to testify in front of a special grand jury as part of the probe, although a federal appeals court has put a hold on that order.
