India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.22%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.22% to hit a new 3-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.22%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 4.82% or 6.40 points to trade at 139.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 3.25% or 3.55 points to end at 112.65 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was up 3.16% or 4.85 points to 158.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which fell 5.62% or 221.85 points to trade at 3,726.20 at the close. Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) declined 2.64% or 116.90 points to end at 4,312.75 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 1.60% or 25.85 points to 1,594.10.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 3.26% to 158.55, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 3.25% to settle at 112.65 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 2.24% to close at 227.80.

The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.56% to 1,594.50 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.35% to settle at 8,699.15 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 1.25% to 1,844.00 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 939 to 883 and 50 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1724 rose and 1536 declined, while 148 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.07% to 17.61.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.30% or 5.50 to $1,801.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.92% or 0.87 to hit $93.47 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.58% or 0.58 to trade at $99.02 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.03% to 79.68, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 82.00.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.35% at 105.36.
