France stocks higher at close of trade; CAC 40 up 1.79%

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 gained 1.79% to hit a new 1-month high, while the SBF 120 index climbed 1.81%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Renault SA (EPA:RENA), which rose 4.42% or 1.10 points to trade at 25.89 at the close. Meanwhile, Publicis Groupe SA (EPA:PUBP) added 4.29% or 1.91 points to end at 46.41 and Societe Generale SA (EPA:SOGN) was up 3.97% or 0.80 points to 20.97 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Alstom SA (EPA:ALSO), which fell 2.62% or 0.65 points to trade at 24.14 at the close. Dassault Systemes SE (EPA:DAST) declined 0.73% or 0.28 points to end at 38.12 and Safran SA (EPA:SAF) was down 0.06% or 0.06 points to 104.22.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Electricite de France SA (EPA:EDF) which rose 14.72% to 11.73, Faurecia (EPA:EPED) which was up 5.61% to settle at 17.80 and Orpea SA (EPA:ORP) which gained 4.90% to close at 22.68.

The worst performers were Neoen SA (EPA:NEOEN) which was down 6.24% to 38.75 in late trade, Alstom SA (EPA:ALSO) which lost 2.62% to settle at 24.14 and Euroapi SAS (EPA:EAPI) which was down 2.50% to 15.67 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 349 to 192 and 93 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 18.96 a new 52-week high.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.02% or 0.40 to $1,709.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.24% or 1.23 to hit $100.65 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 1.11 to trade at $107.38 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.98% to 1.02, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.54% to 0.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.70% at 106.48.
