Donald Trump is “clearly unfit” to return to the Oval Office, Republican Rep. Liz Cheney said Sunday, adding that she shares Hillary Clinton’s worries that a second Trump administration would threaten American democracy.
“When a president refuses to tell the mob to stop, when he refuses to defend any of the coordinate branches of government, he cannot be trusted,” the Wyoming congresswoman told ABC News‘ George Stephanopoulos on Sunday on “This Week.”

Cheney said Trump is “clearly unfit for future office [and] clearly can never be anywhere near the Oval Office ever again,” and that the Republican Party has a duty to make sure “he’s never anywhere close to the reins of power ever again.”
Cheney is a member of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 siege of the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob. After six months of fact-finding, the panel is reportedly set to go public with their findings, and are planning to hold televised hearings laying out their conclusions.
In December, Hillary Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election, told NBC News that she expects Trump to run again in 2024, and warned “that could be the end of our democracy.”
Cheney said Sunday she shares those concerns. “This is a man who has demonstrated that he is at war with the rule of law,” she said. “He’s demonstrated that he’s willing to blow through every guardrail of democracy.”
Cheney also revealed the House committee has firsthand evidence that Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, asked him at least twice to do something to stop the violence as he watched the Capitol siege on TV.
