Investing.com – President Joe Biden on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of returning to the national pandemic lockdown of March 2020, as the Omicron variant of Covid-19 sweeps across the U.S., citing increased vaccination and medical expertise.

Biden said the U.S. would “absolutely not” be returning to national pandemic lockdown seen in March last year.

“Thanks to the progress of vaccinations, we’ve gone from nearly 90 million adults in July that hadn’t even started vaccinations yet to fewer than 14 million today,” Biden said.

Biden also ruled out the possibility of closing schools down as increased resources and know-how would allow schools to stay open even if a student tests positive for Covid-19.

“[Last year] I thought the only way to keep your children safe was the closures as our schools, but today we know more, we have more resources to keep those schools open,” Biden said. “If a student tests positive, others can test and stay in the classroom.”

“We should all be concerned about [Omicron] but not panicking,” Biden added.
