The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Netwealth Group Ltd (ASX:NWL), which rose 6.20% or 0.99 points to trade at 16.95 at the close. Meanwhile, St Barbara Ltd (ASX:SBM) added 5.69% or 0.080 points to end at 1.485 and Charter Hall Group (ASX:CHC) was up 5.62% or 1.11 points to 20.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were GUD Holdings Ltd (ASX:GUD), which fell 4.04% or 0.47 points to trade at 11.16 at the close. Insurance Australia Group Ltd (ASX:IAG) declined 3.64% or 0.160 points to end at 4.240 and NIB Holdings (ASX:NHF) was down 3.38% or 0.24 points to 6.86.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 700 to 677 and 395 ended unchanged.
Shares in Insurance Australia Group Ltd (ASX:IAG) fell to 5-year lows; losing 3.64% or 0.160 to 4.240. Shares in Charter Hall Group (ASX:CHC) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.62% or 1.11 to 20.85.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 11.38% to 12.167.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.06% or 1.05 to $1785.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.13% or 0.81 to hit $72.48 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.92% or 0.69 to trade at $75.84 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.33% to 0.7147, while AUD/JPY fell 0.18% to 81.15.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 96.255.
