Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.09%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.09%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Japan Steel Works Ltd (T:5631), which rose 7.06% or 225.0 points to trade at 3410.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (T:9107) added 4.18% or 195.0 points to end at 4865.0 and Nippon Yusen K.K (T:9101) was up 3.98% or 290.0 points to 7570.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366), which fell 4.76% or 19.0 points to trade at 380.0 at the close. Inpex Corp. (T:1605) declined 4.47% or 43.0 points to end at 920.0 and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (T:7201) was down 3.41% or 21.7 points to 614.5.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1816 to 1695 and 249 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 18.53 a new 1-month low.

Crude oil for January delivery was down 0.14% or 0.11 to $75.83 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 0.35% or 0.28 to hit $78.61 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.42% or 7.85 to trade at $1843.75 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.24% to 114.25, while EUR/JPY rose 0.04% to 128.71.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 96.203.
