The Tokyo Olympics have concluded and many Olympians who won medals in Tokyo will cherish those medals for the rest of their lives.
This includes Polish Javelin thrower Maria Andrejczyk, 25, who attempted to auction off her silver medal to help raise funds for 8-month-old boy Miłoszek Małysa, who needs to travel from Poland to Stanford University to have life-saving heart surgery.

“I didn’t spend long thinking about this, it was the first fundraiser I came across and I knew it was the right one,” Andrejczyk wrote on Facebook

The baby boy has a heart defect that is no longer treatable in the family’s home country of Poland, according to the fundraising page.
Andrejczyk herself is a cancer survivor, and has never met the 8-month-old Małysa.
Andrejczyk announced on Facebook this Monday that Polish supermarket chain Żabka won the auction with a bid of $125,000.
“It’s with the greatest pleasure that I give to you, Żabka, my medal which for me is a symbol of struggle, faith and the pursuit of dreams despite the many challenges,” she wrote.

Żabka announced that is was happy to assist in the fundraiser, and that it will return the Silver medal back to Andrejczyk.
“We were moved by the beautiful and extremely noble gesture of our Olympian,” the company wrote. “We also decided that the silver medal from Tokyo will remain with Mrs. Maria, who showed how great she is.”
