Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.19%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.19%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Costa Group Holdings Ltd (ASX:CGC), which rose 12.97% or 0.520 points to trade at 4.530 at the close. Meanwhile, Webjet Ltd (ASX:WEB) added 8.92% or 0.44 points to end at 5.37 and Sandfire Resources NL (ASX:SFR) was up 8.51% or 0.440 points to 5.610 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Appen Ltd (ASX:APX), which fell 4.77% or 1.03 points to trade at 20.57 at the close. Ansell Ltd (ASX:ANN) declined 4.43% or 1.76 points to end at 37.99 and ARB Corporation Ltd (ASX:ARB) was down 4.33% or 1.66 points to 36.65.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 764 to 609 and 353 ended unchanged.

Shares in Costa Group Holdings Ltd (ASX:CGC) rose to 52-week highs; rising 12.97% or 0.520 to 4.530.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.13% to 15.198.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.86% or 15.20 to $1792.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.79% or 0.47 to hit $59.73 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.93% or 0.58 to trade at $62.72 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.10% to 0.7862, while AUD/JPY rose 0.37% to 83.13.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 90.463.
