Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.55%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.55%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NEC Corp. (T:6701), which rose 12.81% or 730.0 points to trade at 6430.0 at the close. Meanwhile, TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) added 12.44% or 720.0 points to end at 6510.0 and Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064) was up 9.84% or 256.0 points to 2857.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (T:2802), which fell 5.28% or 130.5 points to trade at 2342.5 at the close. East Japan Railway Co. (T:9020) declined 4.78% or 329.0 points to end at 6561.0 and TDK Corp (T:6762) was down 4.68% or 790.0 points to 16090.0.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2235 to 1297 and 207 ended unchanged.

Shares in NEC Corp. (T:6701) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 12.81% or 730.0 to 6430.0. Shares in TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) rose to 3-years highs; up 12.44% or 720.0 to 6510.0.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 28.63 a new 1-month high.

Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.82% or 0.43 to $52.63 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 1.02% or 0.56 to hit $55.58 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.86% or 16.00 to trade at $1866.30 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 104.72, while EUR/JPY fell 0.02% to 126.97.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 90.543.
