At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 1.16%, while the MDAX index climbed 1.09%, and the TecDAX index gained 1.20%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Wohnen AG (DE:DWNG), which rose 3.11% or 1.270 points to trade at 42.150 at the close. Meanwhile, Covestro AG (DE:1COV) added 3.13% or 1.760 points to end at 57.920 and Deutsche Boerse AG (DE:DB1Gn) was up 2.78% or 3.680 points to 136.280 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG), which fell 3.47% or 2.320 points to trade at 64.590 at the close. Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG) declined 2.36% or 0.870 points to end at 35.945 and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (DE:BMWG) was down 0.74% or 0.520 points to 69.715.
The top performers on the MDAX were Software AG (DE:SOWGn) which rose 4.21% to 34.870, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was up 3.70% to settle at 425.800 and Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which gained 3.45% to close at 79.40.
The worst performers were Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 6.52% to 137.600 in late trade, K&S AG (DE:SDFGn) which lost 3.28% to settle at 9.024 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was down 2.07% to 96.680 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Eckert & Ziegler AG O.N. (DE:EUZG) which rose 6.56% to 58.500, Software AG (DE:SOWGn) which was up 4.21% to settle at 34.870 and New Work SE (DE:NWOn) which gained 3.50% to close at 236.50.
The worst performers were Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 6.52% to 137.600 in late trade, Jenoptik AG (DE:JENGn) which lost 2.73% to settle at 27.820 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was down 2.07% to 96.680 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 456 to 236 and 20 ended unchanged.
Shares in Covestro AG (DE:1COV) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.13% or 1.760 to 57.920. Shares in Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) rose to all time highs; up 3.70% or 15.200 to 425.800. Shares in Eckert & Ziegler AG O.N. (DE:EUZG) rose to all time highs; gaining 6.56% or 3.600 to 58.500.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.40% to 29.31.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.74% or 13.70 to $1864.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.88% or 0.46 to hit $52.66 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.02% or 0.56 to trade at $55.58 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.48% to 1.2078, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8840.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 90.938.
