Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.84%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.84%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Blackmores Ltd (ASX:BKL), which rose 8.85% or 6.50 points to trade at 79.93 at the close. Meanwhile, Mesoblast Ltd (ASX:MSB) added 5.88% or 0.140 points to end at 2.520 and Zip Co Ltd (ASX:Z1P) was up 5.23% or 0.38 points to 7.65 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Worley Ltd (ASX:WOR), which fell 10.86% or 1.24 points to trade at 10.18 at the close. Service Stream Ltd (ASX:SSM) declined 4.72% or 0.090 points to end at 1.815 and Kogan.com Ltd (ASX:KGN) was down 3.78% or 0.68 points to 17.31.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 820 to 604 and 308 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.87% to 16.038 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.86% or 16.00 to $1866.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.84% or 0.44 to hit $52.64 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.05% or 0.58 to trade at $55.60 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.15% to 0.7653, while AUD/JPY rose 0.31% to 80.14.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.00% at 90.537.
