Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.65%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.65%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Idp Education Ltd (ASX:IEL), which rose 7.65% or 1.65 points to trade at 23.23 at the close. Meanwhile, Reliance Worldwide Corporation Ltd (ASX:RWC) added 6.59% or 0.27 points to end at 4.37 and Pro Medicus Ltd (ASX:PME) was up 6.44% or 2.65 points to 43.78 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (ASX:FMG), which fell 6.40% or 1.620 points to trade at 23.680 at the close. OZ Minerals Ltd (ASX:OZL) declined 5.76% or 1.17 points to end at 19.14 and Iluka Resources Ltd (ASX:ILU) was down 5.54% or 0.390 points to 6.650.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 799 to 596 and 357 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 3.39% to 14.241.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.17% or 3.10 to $1847.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.63% or 0.33 to hit $52.94 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.56% or 0.31 to trade at $55.95 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.08% to 0.7737, while AUD/JPY rose 0.01% to 80.23.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 90.188.
