Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.36%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.36% to hit a new 6-months high.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Idp Education Ltd (ASX:IEL), which rose 5.73% or 1.17 points to trade at 21.58 at the close. Meanwhile, Nearmap Ltd (ASX:NEA) added 4.61% or 0.100 points to end at 2.270 and Netwealth Group Ltd (ASX:NWL) was up 4.17% or 0.74 points to 18.49 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Ampol Ltd (ASX:ALD), which fell 4.91% or 1.51 points to trade at 29.24 at the close. Webjet Ltd (ASX:WEB) declined 3.83% or 0.19 points to end at 4.77 and Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT) was down 3.33% or 0.52 points to 15.10.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 727 to 633 and 356 ended unchanged.

Shares in Netwealth Group Ltd (ASX:NWL) rose to all time highs; rising 4.17% or 0.74 to 18.49.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 2.65% to 13.774.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.22% or 4.10 to $1852.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.63% or 0.33 to hit $52.60 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.49% or 0.27 to trade at $55.52 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.31% to 0.7740, while AUD/JPY rose 0.22% to 80.26.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 90.085.
