At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.24% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.52%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.63%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which rose 5.40% or 9.91 points to trade at 193.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) added 4.53% or 2.53 points to end at 58.33 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 4.71% or 1.94 points to 43.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO), which fell 3.41% or 1.78 points to trade at 50.40 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 3.01% or 3.94 points to end at 127.07 and Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM) was down 2.25% or 4.98 points to 216.54.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Centene Corp (NYSE:CNC) which rose 10.40% to 67.42, Zions Bancorporation (NASDAQ:ZION) which was up 10.27% to settle at 48.09 and Macy’s Inc (NYSE:M) which gained 10.10% to close at 12.54.
The worst performers were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which was down 4.61% to 511.45 in late trade, Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc (NYSE:ARE) which lost 4.19% to settle at 163.45 and Cadence Design Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CDNS) which was down 4.12% to 130.53 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were The9 Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:NCTY) which rose 59.00% to 13.610, Urban One (NASDAQ:UONE) which was up 41.00% to settle at 6.190 and Digital Ally Inc (NASDAQ:DGLY) which gained 36.13% to close at 3.730.
The worst performers were Imara Inc (NASDAQ:IMRA) which was down 37.00% to 14.95 in late trade, Onconova Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ONTX) which lost 22.83% to settle at 0.6405 and My Size Inc (NASDAQ:MYSZ) which was down 22.49% to 1.310 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2003 to 1122 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1970 rose and 1046 declined, while 63 ended unchanged.
Shares in Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.40% or 9.91 to 193.55. Shares in Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.53% or 2.53 to 58.33. Shares in The9 Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:NCTY) rose to 52-week highs; rising 59.00% or 5.050 to 13.610. Shares in Imara Inc (NASDAQ:IMRA) fell to all time lows; losing 37.00% or 8.78 to 14.95.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 5.64% to 26.77.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.55% or 30.30 to $1924.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.72% or 0.36 to hit $50.29 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.65% or 0.35 to trade at $53.95 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.28% to 1.2328, while USD/JPY rose 0.28% to 103.00.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 89.368.
