Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 0.24%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.24%, while the MDAX index fell 0.38%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.16%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Delivery Hero AG (DE:DHER), which rose 1.20% or 1.50 points to trade at 127.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) added 1.11% or 1.53 points to end at 139.93 and SAP SE (DE:SAPG) was up 0.46% or 0.490 points to 107.500 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn), which fell 1.98% or 4.30 points to trade at 213.40 at the close. Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) declined 1.14% or 0.710 points to end at 61.490 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) was down 1.14% or 0.400 points to 34.565.

The top performers on the MDAX were K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which rose 2.23% to 7.790, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was up 2.17% to settle at 93.790 and Tag Immobilien AG (DE:TEGG) which gained 1.73% to close at 25.900.

The worst performers were Kion Group AG (DE:KGX) which was down 2.28% to 71.16 in late trade, Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG) which lost 2.25% to settle at 10.787 and Brenntag AG (DE:BNRGn) which was down 2.07% to 63.340 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which rose 2.17% to 93.790, S&T AG (DE:SANT1) which was up 1.95% to settle at 19.30 and Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which gained 1.56% to close at 22.160.

The worst performers were Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which was down 1.63% to 60.400 in late trade, Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which lost 1.56% to settle at 157.50 and Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was down 1.40% to 2.255 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 374 to 326 and 55 ended unchanged.

Shares in Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) rose to all time highs; rising 1.11% or 1.53 to 139.93.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 0.44% to 24.71.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.32% or 6.00 to $1888.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $47.97 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $51.24 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.38% to 1.2294, while EUR/GBP fell 0.33% to 0.9041.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 89.630.
