Germany stocks mixed at close of trade; DAX up 1.30%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 1.30%, while the MDAX index gained 0.52%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.01%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn), which rose 4.29% or 8.90 points to trade at 216.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Daimler AG NA O.N. (DE:DAIGn) added 3.47% or 1.965 points to end at 58.585 and Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) was up 3.04% or 3.60 points to 122.08 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN), which fell 0.25% or 0.12 points to trade at 48.19 at the close. SAP SE (DE:SAPG) declined 0.16% or 0.170 points to end at 103.590 and Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) was down 0.14% or 0.130 points to 93.140.

The top performers on the MDAX were Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG) which rose 4.42% to 9.868, Airbus Group SE (DE:AIRG) which was up 4.31% to settle at 91.63 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) which gained 3.47% to close at 5.372.

The worst performers were HelloFresh SE (DE:HFGG) which was down 5.04% to 58.45 in late trade, Gerresheimer AG (DE:GXIG) which lost 2.41% to settle at 86.900 and Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 1.27% to 117.000 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which rose 1.93% to 2.276, S&T AG (DE:SANT1) which was up 1.82% to settle at 18.50 and Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which gained 1.40% to close at 14.348.

The worst performers were Eckert & Ziegler AG O.N. (DE:EUZG) which was down 2.54% to 44.560 in late trade, Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which lost 1.90% to settle at 155.20 and Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 1.27% to 117.000 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 413 to 242 and 36 ended unchanged.

Shares in Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 3.04% or 3.60 to 122.08. Shares in Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 1.40% or 0.198 to 14.348.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 7.31% to 25.36.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.25% or 4.75 to $1875.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.98% or 0.93 to hit $47.95 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.94% or 0.97 to trade at $51.05 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.27% to 1.2194, while EUR/GBP fell 0.88% to 0.9020.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 90.218.
