Germany stocks higher at close of trade; DAX up 1.06%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 1.06%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.05%, and the TecDAX index added 0.05%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which rose 7.65% or 10.70 points to trade at 150.56 at the close. Meanwhile, Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) added 2.77% or 3.05 points to end at 113.35 and Daimler AG NA O.N. (DE:DAIGn) was up 2.76% or 1.555 points to 57.990 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Delivery Hero AG (DE:DHER), which fell 2.31% or 2.65 points to trade at 112.00 at the close. Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) declined 1.57% or 2.14 points to end at 134.33 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) was down 0.52% or 0.30 points to 57.32.

The top performers on the MDAX were Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) which rose 6.79% to 6.980, Metro Wholesale & Food Specialist AG (DE:B4B) which was up 5.80% to settle at 7.9160 and TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which gained 4.40% to close at 41.55.

The worst performers were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was down 3.86% to 348.600 in late trade, Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (DE:SY1G) which lost 2.70% to settle at 103.650 and Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which was down 2.37% to 82.52 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which rose 4.73% to 20.380, TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which was up 4.40% to settle at 41.55 and Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which gained 2.88% to close at 12.963.

The worst performers were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was down 3.86% to 348.600 in late trade, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which lost 2.31% to settle at 105.500 and Qiagen NV (DE:QIA) which was down 1.91% to 42.145 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 420 to 256 and 74 ended unchanged.

Shares in Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) rose to 3-years highs; rising 4.73% or 0.920 to 20.380.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.28% to 24.03.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.08% or 19.85 to $1851.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.13% or 0.53 to hit $47.52 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.87% or 0.44 to trade at $50.73 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.08% to 1.2152, while EUR/GBP fell 0.70% to 0.9049.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 90.457.
