Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 2.42%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 2.42%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Service Stream Ltd (ASX:SSM), which rose 14.04% or 0.250 points to trade at 2.030 at the close. Meanwhile, AP Eagers Ltd (ASX:APE) added 7.05% or 0.64 points to end at 9.72 and Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT) was up 6.46% or 0.83 points to 13.68 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Ramelius Resources Ltd (ASX:RMS), which fell 7.30% or 0.170 points to trade at 2.160 at the close. Virgin Money PLC (ASX:VUK) declined 2.27% or 0.03 points to end at 1.29 and Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX:NST) was down 2.09% or 0.290 points to 13.610.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 810 to 458 and 333 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 8.85% to 19.713.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.37% or 26.05 to $1881.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.93% or 0.37 to hit $39.43 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.77% or 0.32 to trade at $41.40 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.59% to 0.7131, while AUD/JPY fell 0.32% to 74.98.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 94.198.
