Uber Technologies Inc. is bringing in a new chief technology officer from Amazon.com Inc., Sukumar Rathnam, filling a position that has been vacant for more than three months.

The hiring was announced internally Thursday and was first reported by The Information. An Uber UBER, -1.59% spokesman confirmed the news to MarketWatch, and said Rathnam would start Sept. 28.

Rathnam has been at Amazon AMZN, -2.25% since 2011, and was most recently a vice president in charge of product selection and catalog systems.
