Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.65%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 1.65%, while the MDAX index lost 1.18%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.90%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which rose 3.21% or 0.253 points to trade at 8.136 at the close. Meanwhile, Covestro AG (DE:1COV) added 2.53% or 1.070 points to end at 43.300 and Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) was up 1.28% or 1.19 points to 94.16 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn), which fell 6.38% or 3.92 points to trade at 57.56 at the close. Deutsche Wohnen AG (DE:DWNG) declined 5.87% or 2.710 points to end at 43.490 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) was down 4.97% or 1.630 points to 31.175.

The top performers on the MDAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) which rose 9.04% to 5.150, Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was up 4.37% to settle at 126.600 and GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which gained 3.12% to close at 30.925.

The worst performers were Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which was down 9.44% to 61.400 in late trade, Bechtle AG (DE:BC8G) which lost 4.86% to settle at 154.500 and Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was down 4.78% to 76.440 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which rose 4.37% to 126.600, Siemens Healthineers AG (DE:SHLG) which was up 0.85% to settle at 36.69 and Software AG (DE:SOWGn) which gained 0.46% to close at 41.940.

The worst performers were Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which was down 9.44% to 61.400 in late trade, Bechtle AG (DE:BC8G) which lost 4.86% to settle at 154.500 and Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was down 4.78% to 76.440 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 434 to 241 and 70 ended unchanged.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 7.79% to 31.98 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.35% or 6.85 to $1930.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 4.42% or 1.83 to hit $39.54 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 3.77% or 1.66 to trade at $42.41 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.10% to 1.1838, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.8933.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 92.858.
