Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.40%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 1.40%, while the MDAX index lost 2.41%, and the TecDAX index lost 4.16%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Covestro AG (DE:1COV), which rose 2.18% or 0.900 points to trade at 42.230 at the close. Meanwhile, Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) added 1.80% or 2.53 points to end at 143.01 and Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) was up 1.44% or 1.32 points to 92.97 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Delivery Hero AG (DE:DHER), which fell 7.90% or 7.48 points to trade at 87.20 at the close. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) declined 4.45% or 1.070 points to end at 22.950 and Deutsche Boerse AG (DE:DB1Gn) was down 3.98% or 6.300 points to 151.980.

The top performers on the MDAX were Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) which rose 4.08% to 9.8900, Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG) which was up 4.02% to settle at 8.896 and Fraport AG (DE:FRAG) which gained 3.51% to close at 38.300.

The worst performers were HelloFresh SE (DE:HFGG) which was down 10.40% to 38.24 in late trade, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which lost 9.59% to settle at 326.200 and Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 9.14% to 121.300 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Jenoptik AG (DE:JENGn) which rose 0.72% to 22.420, Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) which was up 0.33% to settle at 18.340 and Deutsche Telekom AG Na (DE:DTEGn) which lost 0.83% to close at 15.240.

The worst performers were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was down 9.59% to 326.200 in late trade, Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which lost 9.14% to settle at 121.300 and Qiagen NV (DE:QIA) which was down 6.08% to 40.120 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 465 to 213 and 67 ended unchanged.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 8.40% to 29.67 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.42% or 8.25 to $1936.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.14% or 0.06 to hit $41.45 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.27 to trade at $44.16 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.14% to 1.1837, while EUR/GBP rose 0.54% to 0.8924.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 92.852.
