At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.16%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Bega Cheese Ltd (ASX:BGA), which rose 7.82% or 0.38 points to trade at 5.24 at the close. Meanwhile, Challenger Ltd (ASX:CGF) added 5.19% or 0.200 points to end at 4.050 and Steadfast Group Ltd (ASX:SDF) was up 4.96% or 0.17 points to 3.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Appen Ltd (ASX:APX), which fell 11.15% or 4.85 points to trade at 38.65 at the close. Link Administration Holdings Ltd (ASX:LNK) declined 9.55% or 0.42 points to end at 3.98 and Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC) was down 8.82% or 0.090 points to 0.930.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 704 to 586 and 341 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.59% to 17.996 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.19% or 3.80 to $1948.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.21% or 0.09 to hit $43.30 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.06% or 0.03 to trade at $46.13 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7234, while AUD/JPY rose 0.10% to 76.71.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 92.942.
