India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.50%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.50%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.37%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which rose 9.48% or 69.05 points to trade at 797.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 4.90% or 29.45 points to end at 629.90 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) was up 4.84% or 44.30 points to 959.95 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which fell 2.19% or 477.35 points to trade at 21330.00 at the close. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) declined 1.23% or 22.25 points to end at 1784.00 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was down 1.20% or 80.00 points to 6599.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 4.95% to 630.30, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 4.84% to settle at 960.00 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 3.47% to close at 544.05.

The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.26% to 2119.60 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 1.17% to settle at 1783.95 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.16% to 6602.00 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1119 to 513 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1644 rose and 941 declined, while 152 ended unchanged.

Shares in Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.95% or 29.70 to 630.30. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.47% or 18.25 to 544.05.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.30% to 22.5100 a new 3-months low.

Gold Futures for October delivery was up 0.57% or 11.45 to $2029.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.29% or 0.53 to hit $41.75 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.86% or 0.38 to trade at $44.78 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.11% to 74.928, while EUR/INR fell 0.43% to 88.0785.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 93.605.
