India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.87%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.87%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 2.03%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI), which rose 7.44% or 149.40 points to trade at 2158.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) added 6.37% or 8.60 points to end at 143.55 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) was up 3.81% or 38.20 points to 1040.20 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which fell 2.79% or 18.80 points to trade at 654.80 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 2.48% or 10.35 points to end at 407.45 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was down 2.00% or 10.05 points to 493.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 7.10% to 2151.15, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was up 3.94% to settle at 1041.40 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 3.15% to close at 6360.00.

The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 2.75% to 655.00 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 2.11% to settle at 492.60 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 1.88% to 692.75 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1069 to 516 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1613 rose and 890 declined, while 123 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.44% to 23.8150.

Gold Futures for October delivery was up 0.33% or 6.60 to $1981.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.46% or 0.60 to hit $40.41 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.43% or 0.63 to trade at $43.52 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.14% to 75.073, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 88.4050.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 93.463.
