India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.86%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.86%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.10%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which rose 6.28% or 254.35 points to trade at 4305.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 4.00% or 14.35 points to end at 372.85 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 3.05% or 16.05 points to 543.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI), which fell 3.94% or 85.70 points to trade at 2092.00 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 2.68% or 16.60 points to end at 603.75 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was down 2.53% or 18.05 points to 694.40.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 3.99% to 372.65, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 3.15% to settle at 543.50 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 2.18% to close at 493.00.

The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 3.75% to 2095.85 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 2.61% to settle at 604.25 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 2.51% to 695.00 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 833 to 735 and 97 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1290 rose and 1250 declined, while 118 ended unchanged.

Shares in Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) rose to 3-years highs; rising 6.28% or 254.35 to 4305.70.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.99% to 24.1125.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.29% or 5.60 to $1950.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.00% or 0.41 to hit $41.45 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.17% or 0.51 to trade at $44.12 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.27% to 74.705, while EUR/INR fell 0.00% to 87.7450.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 93.513.
