The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Inpex Corp. (T:1605), which rose 2.83% or 18.3 points to trade at 663.9 at the close. Meanwhile, Toyobo Co., Ltd. (T:3101) added 2.16% or 33.0 points to end at 1560.0 and Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (T:4063) was up 2.06% or 270.0 points to 13405.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fujikura Ltd. (T:5803), which fell 5.41% or 18.0 points to trade at 315.0 at the close. Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (T:4568) declined 4.64% or 409.0 points to end at 8415.0 and Terumo Corp. (T:4543) was down 4.02% or 168.0 points to 4007.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2273 to 1237 and 184 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 22.48.
Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.41% or 0.17 to $41.75 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.25% or 0.11 to hit $44.21 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.45% or 8.25 to trade at $1852.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.13% to 106.89, while EUR/JPY rose 0.02% to 123.11.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 95.263.
