At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.03%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.84%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 2.51%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which rose 4.30% or 8.72 points to trade at 211.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 2.11% or 8.12 points to end at 393.43 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 1.92% or 1.15 points to 61.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which fell 3.14% or 1.37 points to trade at 42.30 at the close. Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:XOM) declined 2.34% or 1.02 points to end at 42.50 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was down 2.32% or 0.96 points to 40.46.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) which rose 7.93% to 3196.84, Citrix Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CTXS) which was up 7.64% to settle at 167.73 and Noble Energy Inc (NASDAQ:NBL) which gained 5.44% to close at 10.18.
The worst performers were Alliance Data Systems Corp (NYSE:ADS) which was down 5.62% to 40.12 in late trade, Capri Holdings Ltd (NYSE:CPRI) which lost 5.57% to settle at 15.43 and Healthpeak Properties Inc (NYSE:PEAK) which was down 5.24% to 25.69 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Tonix Pharmaceuticals Holding Corp (NASDAQ:TNXP) which rose 91.36% to 1.550, Majesco (NASDAQ:MJCO) which was up 72.25% to settle at 13.16 and Immuron Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:IMRN) which gained 63.42% to close at 10.41.
The worst performers were YRC Worldwide Inc (NASDAQ:YRCW) which was down 27.17% to 2.600 in late trade, Genetic Technologies Ltd (NASDAQ:GENE) which lost 23.99% to settle at 4.31 and Nikola Corp (NASDAQ:NKLA) which was down 21.27% to 38.45 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1655 to 1191 and 86 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1358 rose and 1343 declined, while 67 ended unchanged.
Shares in Citrix Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CTXS) rose to all time highs; up 7.64% or 11.90 to 167.73. Shares in Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.11% or 8.12 to 393.43. Shares in Majesco (NASDAQ:MJCO) rose to all time highs; rising 72.25% or 5.52 to 13.16.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.75% to 24.46 a new 3-months low.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.49% or 8.95 to $1818.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.12% or 0.05 to hit $40.80 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.02 to trade at $43.21 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.00% to 1.1444, while USD/JPY fell 0.00% to 107.23.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 95.752.
