Kanye West, the third party we deserve?
“ “I don’t know if I would use the word ‘policy’ for the way I would approach things. I don’t have a policy when I went to Nike and designed Yeezy and went to Louis and designed a Louis Vuitton at the same time.” ”
Umm… OK.
That’s just a glimpse of what a West presidency could look like, according to a ranging Forbes interview with the iconic rapper just days after he announced White House aspirations.
“I would run as a Republican if Trump wasn’t there. I will run as an independent if Trump is there,” said West, who was previously an outspoken backer of the current president. “If I win in 2020 then it was God’s appointment. If I win in 2024 then that was God’s appointment.”
While West still spoke fondly of Trump in the interview, he also said that he’s lost confidence in the president over his handling of the coronavirus outbreak.
“It looks like one big mess to me,” he said, admitting he himself was infected back in February.
West added that he also didn’t like that Trump “hid in a bunker,” in reference to reports last month that the president was shuffled off to an underground bunker as protests raged outside the White House over racial injustice and police brutality.
“I am taking the red hat off, with this interview,” West said.
With a new album about to be released, West’s announcement has been dismissed by many as a publicity stunt, but he argued that’s not the case. “I give my album away for free,” he told Forbes. “Like anything I’ve ever done in my life… I’m doing to win.”
