Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.78%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.78%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064), which rose 2.14% or 58.0 points to trade at 2771.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Kobe Steel, Ltd. (T:5406) added 1.89% or 7.0 points to end at 377.0 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T:7211) was up 1.88% or 5.0 points to 271.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were CyberAgent Inc (T:4751), which fell 6.28% or 400.0 points to trade at 5970.0 at the close. Konami Corp. (T:9766) declined 4.54% or 160.0 points to end at 3365.0 and Marui Group Co., Ltd. (T:8252) was down 3.89% or 73.0 points to 1802.0.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2311 to 1203 and 153 ended unchanged.

Shares in Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 2.14% or 58.0 to 2771.0.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 21.50 a new 3-months low.

Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.02% or 0.01 to $40.61 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $43.07 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.15% or 2.80 to trade at $1807.10 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.04% to 107.47, while EUR/JPY rose 0.18% to 121.38.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 96.767.
