Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.42%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.42%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Tuas Ltd (ASX:TUA), which rose 37.68% or 0.26 points to trade at 0.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Cochlear Ltd (ASX:COH) added 5.87% or 11.31 points to end at 204.00 and Bega Cheese Ltd (ASX:BGA) was up 5.06% or 0.24 points to 4.98 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adelaide Brighton Ltd (ASX:ABC), which fell 25.40% or 0.800 points to trade at 2.350 at the close. Idp Education Ltd (ASX:IEL) declined 4.66% or 0.81 points to end at 16.58 and Netwealth Group Ltd (ASX:NWL) was down 4.64% or 0.44 points to 9.04.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 651 to 561 and 326 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tuas Ltd (ASX:TUA) rose to all time highs; rising 37.68% or 0.26 to 0.95.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 5.31% to 18.324.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.28% or 4.95 to $1785.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.93% or 0.38 to hit $40.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.86% or 0.37 to trade at $42.77 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.19% to 0.6935, while AUD/JPY rose 0.22% to 74.56.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 97.198.
