Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.49%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.49%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Ioof Holdings Ltd (ASX:IFL), which rose 8.47% or 0.40 points to trade at 5.12 at the close. Meanwhile, G.U.D. Holdings Ltd (ASX:GUD) added 6.64% or 0.72 points to end at 11.56 and Sandfire Resources NL (ASX:SFR) was up 6.20% or 0.300 points to 5.140 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Qantas Airways Ltd (ASX:QAN), which fell 9.07% or 0.38 points to trade at 3.81 at the close. Orocobre Ltd (ASX:ORE) declined 5.58% or 0.14 points to end at 2.37 and GWA Group Ltd (ASX:GWA) was down 4.91% or 0.14 points to 2.71.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 749 to 470 and 391 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 8.77% to 21.678.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.01% or 0.25 to $1770.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.67% or 0.26 to hit $38.98 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.80% or 0.33 to trade at $41.38 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.6885, while AUD/JPY fell 0.07% to 73.75.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 97.385.
