The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Perseus Mining Ltd (ASX:PRU), which rose 7.11% or 0.085 points to trade at 1.280 at the close. Meanwhile, Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:EVN) added 6.65% or 0.35 points to end at 5.61 and Orocobre Ltd (ASX:ORE) was up 4.92% or 0.12 points to 2.56 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Viva Energy Group Ltd (ASX:VEA), which fell 3.65% or 0.070 points to trade at 1.850 at the close. Lynas Corporation Ltd (ASX:LYC) declined 3.45% or 0.070 points to end at 1.960 and Transurban Group (ASX:TCL) was down 3.31% or 0.490 points to 14.300.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 678 to 578 and 345 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.67% to 20.757.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.13% or 2.30 to $1784.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $40.37 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.12 to trade at $42.75 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.17% to 0.6940, while AUD/JPY rose 0.24% to 73.97.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 96.597.
