India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.02%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.13%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK), which rose 4.14% or 39.30 points to trade at 989.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) added 3.90% or 68.35 points to end at 1820.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 3.41% or 11.30 points to 342.40 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 5.87% or 5.90 points to trade at 94.60 at the close. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 2.92% or 6.50 points to end at 216.40 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was down 2.78% or 13.65 points to 476.90.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 4.16% to 990.35, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 4.03% to settle at 1822.80 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 3.60% to close at 342.80.

The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 2.57% to 534.00 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 2.40% to settle at 380.00 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.80% to 480.85 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 907 to 725 and 41 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1300 fell and 1138 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.19% to 32.9650.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.66% or 11.45 to $1738.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.48% or 0.55 to hit $37.67 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.66% or 0.66 to trade at $40.38 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.20% to 76.106, while EUR/INR rose 0.11% to 86.0910.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 96.625.
