Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 3.89%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 3.89%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Viva Energy Group Ltd (ASX:VEA), which rose 15.46% or 0.235 points to trade at 1.755 at the close. Meanwhile, oOh!Media Ltd (ASX:OML) added 12.11% or 0.12 points to end at 1.06 and Ioof Holdings Ltd (ASX:IFL) was up 11.79% or 0.54 points to 5.12 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Saracen Mineral Holdings Ltd (ASX:SAR), which fell 0.85% or 0.04 points to trade at 4.64 at the close. Pro Medicus Ltd (ASX:PME) declined 0.44% or 0.12 points to end at 27.15 and Jumbo Interactive Ltd (ASX:JIN) was 0% or 0 points to 11.41.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 975 to 278 and 339 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 4.63% to 22.657.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.27% or 4.70 to $1731.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.16% or 0.06 to hit $37.18 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.20% or 0.08 to trade at $39.80 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.15% to 0.6928, while AUD/JPY rose 0.24% to 74.41.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 96.457.
