The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Seven Group Holdings Ltd (ASX:SVW), which rose 2.00% or 0.340 points to trade at 17.350 at the close. Meanwhile, TPG Telecom Ltd (ASX:TPM) added 1.86% or 0.150 points to end at 8.200 and Ingenia Communities Group (ASX:INA) was up 1.67% or 0.07 points to 4.27 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Platinum Asset Management Ltd (ASX:PTM), which fell 11.78% or 0.47 points to trade at 3.52 at the close. oOh!Media Ltd (ASX:OML) declined 9.82% or 0.11 points to end at 1.01 and Southern Cross Media Group Ltd (ASX:SXL) was down 9.09% or 0.020 points to 0.200.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 1162 to 183 and 274 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 32.38% to 26.699 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.17% or 2.95 to $1736.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.75% or 1.00 to hit $35.34 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.52% or 0.97 to trade at $37.58 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.07% to 0.6859, while AUD/JPY rose 0.38% to 73.50.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 96.770.
