Key Words: Biden says his ‘greatest concern’ is that Trump’s ‘going to try to steal this election’

‘That’s my greatest concern, my single greatest concern. This president’s going to try to steal this election. This is a guy who said that all mail-in ballots are fraudulent … while he sits behind the desk in the Oval Office and writes his mail-in ballot to vote in a primary.’

— Joe Biden, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee

That line above came Wednesday from Joe Biden on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.”

The TV show’s host, Trevor Noah, had asked the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee if there were plans to ensure Americans could vote in November without having to wait in line for hours, as happened on Tuesday in Georgia’s primary elections, which were hampered by new voting machines, low staffing at polling locations and mail-in ballots that failed to arrive.

Biden said 23 states have passed legislation making it harder for people to vote, and “that’s why we’re putting together a major initiative of lawyers” to “patrol this.”

President Donald Trump has complained that voting by mail is “ripe for fraud,” but he requested a mail ballot for Florida’s Republican primary earlier this year.

In response to another question from Noah about whether Trump might refuse to leave office after losing the November election, Biden said Wednesday that he had thought about that possibility, but he suggested the U.S. military wouldn’t let that happen, noting that former military officials have spoken out against Trump recently.

“I was so damn proud. Here you have four chiefs of staff coming out and ripping the skin off of Trump, and you have so many rank-and-file military personnel saying, ‘Whoa, we’re not a military state. This is not who we are,’” Biden told the Comedy Central host.

“I’m absolutely convinced they will escort him from the White House with great dispatch.”

In a RealClearPolitics moving average of national polls as of Thursday, Biden has an 8.1-point lead over Trump.
