Elon Musk is hanging up his Twitter finger. Again.
The Tesla TSLA, -2.46% boss, who quit Instagram back in 2018 and earlier this year said everybody should “delete Facebook, it’s lame,” told his 35 million followers on Monday that, for now, he’s had enough of the social-media platform.
Up to that point, Musk had been busy firing off tweets about SpaceX’s successful launch of two NASA astronauts to the International Space Station over the weekend:
He also shared his thoughts on the George Floyd situation:
Some shareholders are probably relieved Musk’s pressing pause on his Twitter TWTR, -0.09% antics for a bit, considering it’s gotten him into some hot water in the past, particularly his tweets about securing funding for Tesla in 2018 that resulted in a $20 million fine.
Then there’s the “pedo guy” and baby-naming episodes. Never a dull moment.
If history is any indication, Musk will most likely be wading back into the fray sooner rather than later. Last year, he questioned the good of the platform and announced that he was “going offline.” But he was back promoting SpaceX within a few days.
Whatever he’s doing, it’s working. Despite Musk’s spotty Twitter history, there’s no arguing with Tesla’s performance this year, with the stock doubling amid a broader market downturn.
