Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.32%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.32% to hit a new 1-month high.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Nearmap Ltd (ASX:NEA), which rose 16.67% or 0.320 points to trade at 2.240 at the close. Meanwhile, Virgin Money UK PLC (ASX:VUK) added 10.14% or 0.18 points to end at 2.01 and GWA Group Ltd (ASX:GWA) was up 6.47% or 0.18 points to 2.96 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Jumbo Interactive Ltd (ASX:JIN), which fell 7.18% or 0.87 points to trade at 11.25 at the close. Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) declined 6.18% or 0.105 points to end at 1.595 and Wisetech Global Ltd (ASX:WTC) was down 5.77% or 1.29 points to 21.06.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 681 to 529 and 354 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 4.19% to 21.536.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.49% or 8.40 to $1719.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.62% or 0.86 to hit $31.95 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.67% or 0.58 to trade at $34.16 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.00% to 0.6621, while AUD/JPY rose 0.13% to 71.39.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 98.875.
