The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233), which rose 12.77% or 289.0 points to trade at 2553.0 at the close. Meanwhile, NKSJ Holdings, Inc. (T:8630) added 7.11% or 235.0 points to end at 3540.0 and Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T:5801) was up 4.34% or 104.0 points to 2499.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Amada Co., Ltd. (T:6113), which fell 3.51% or 34.0 points to trade at 935.0 at the close. Tokyu Fudosan (T:3289) declined 3.04% or 16.0 points to end at 510.0 and KDDI Corp. (T:9433) was down 3.02% or 96.0 points to 3085.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1881 to 1661 and 217 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 27.72 a new 1-month low.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 2.33% or 0.78 to $34.27 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 1.82% or 0.65 to hit $36.40 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.77% or 13.55 to trade at $1738.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.29% to 107.83, while EUR/JPY rose 0.20% to 118.25.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 99.355.
