Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.43%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.43%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Silver Lake Resources Ltd (ASX:SLR), which rose 8.86% or 0.175 points to trade at 2.150 at the close. Meanwhile, Gold Road Resources Ltd (ASX:GOR) added 7.12% or 0.110 points to end at 1.655 and Graincorp Ltd (ASX:GNC) was up 7.08% or 0.26 points to 3.93 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Xero Ltd (ASX:XRO), which fell 5.58% or 4.45 points to trade at 75.32 at the close. United Malt Group Ltd (ASX:UMG) declined 4.43% or 0.19 points to end at 4.10 and ARB Corporation Ltd (ASX:ARB) was down 4.00% or 0.64 points to 15.37.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 737 to 434 and 368 ended unchanged.

Shares in Silver Lake Resources Ltd (ASX:SLR) rose to 5-year highs; up 8.86% or 0.175 to 2.150.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 4.94% to 25.041.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.26% or 4.60 to $1745.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.18% or 0.60 to hit $28.16 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.67% or 0.83 to trade at $31.96 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.21% to 0.6448, while AUD/JPY fell 0.27% to 69.10.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 100.377.
