India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 3.21%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 3.21% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 3.05%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 19.96% or 15.60 points to trade at 93.75 at the close. Meanwhile, UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) added 14.53% or 52.40 points to end at 413.00 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 13.12% or 9.25 points to 79.75 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which fell 2.44% or 11.65 points to trade at 466.00 at the close. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) declined 1.20% or 26.75 points to end at 2205.00 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was down 1.05% or 6.25 points to 590.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 13.40% to 79.95, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 10.80% to settle at 544.60 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which gained 9.22% to close at 2152.60.

The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 2.72% to 464.85 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 1.63% to settle at 2195.70 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 0.55% to 468.00 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 905 to 598 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1264 rose and 1048 declined, while 158 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.44% to 33.9875.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.97% or 16.60 to $1730.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 16.20% or 2.44 to hit $17.50 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 8.71% or 2.11 to trade at $26.34 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.50% to 75.073, while EUR/INR fell 0.44% to 81.6795.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 99.485.
