Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 2.30%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 2.30%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were EML Payments Ltd (ASX:EML), which rose 32.87% or 0.47 points to trade at 1.92 at the close. Meanwhile, Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX:APT) added 29.40% or 4.41 points to end at 19.41 and Bapcor Ltd (ASX:BAP) was up 22.22% or 0.70 points to 3.85 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX:NST), which fell 15.56% or 2.100 points to trade at 11.400 at the close. Unibail Rodamco Westfield (ASX:URW) declined 8.91% or 0.50 points to end at 5.11 and Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:EVN) was down 5.24% or 0.23 points to 4.16.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 911 to 291 and 232 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 11.98% to 38.494.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.63% or 10.25 to $1623.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 2.20% or 0.54 to hit $23.95 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.17% or 0.32 to trade at $27.07 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.54% to 0.5926, while AUD/JPY fell 1.13% to 65.50.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 100.805.
