At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 2.10%, while the MDAX index declined 3.50%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.37%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG), which rose 2.69% or 0.765 points to trade at 29.195 at the close. Meanwhile, Deutsche Boerse AG (DE:DB1Gn) added 2.33% or 2.350 points to end at 103.400 and Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) was up 2.15% or 0.445 points to 21.155 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn), which fell 15.21% or 20.00 points to trade at 111.50 at the close. Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) declined 5.67% or 2.84 points to end at 47.26 and Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN) was down 5.59% or 10.68 points to 180.26.
The top performers on the MDAX were Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which rose 7.48% to 77.600, Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which was up 6.59% to settle at 57.280 and Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO Pref (DE:FPEG_p) which gained 3.69% to close at 27.425.
The worst performers were Airbus Group SE (DE:AIRG) which was down 13.25% to 55.14 in late trade, Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which lost 13.22% to settle at 12.570 and Aroundtown Property Holdings PLC (DE:AT1) which was down 8.35% to 4.105 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which rose 7.48% to 77.600, Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which was up 3.61% to settle at 7.000 and Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which gained 3.25% to close at 120.60.
The worst performers were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 6.21% to 5.660 in late trade, Deutsche Telekom AG Na (DE:DTEGn) which lost 5.22% to settle at 11.455 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which was down 4.43% to 47.040 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 518 to 194 and 24 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.67% or 2.84 to 47.26. Shares in Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) fell to 5-year lows; falling 13.22% or 1.915 to 12.570. Shares in Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) fell to 5-year lows; losing 6.21% or 0.375 to 5.660. Shares in CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) fell to 52-week lows; losing 4.43% or 2.180 to 47.040.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 4.99% to 64.54.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 5.22% or 77.50 to $1562.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.75% or 0.17 to hit $22.80 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.30% or 0.35 to trade at $26.63 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.54% to 1.0752, while EUR/GBP rose 1.70% to 0.9323.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 103.105.
