Investing.com – Amazon.com (NASDAQ:) said Tuesday it is “temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies and other high-demand products” to deal with many items being out of stock due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are seeing increased online shopping, and as a result some products such as household staples and medical supplies are out of stock,” Amazon said in a statement. “With this in mind, we are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers.”
It has “temporarily disabled shipment creation” for other products, with this taking effect today through April 5.
Shares of Amazon rose 5.2% in midday trading.
There were reports yesterday that Amazon would be hiring 100,000 workers to keep up with demand for delivery while so many customers remain stuck at home.
