President Donald Trump on Tuesday pardoned financier Michael Milken and commuted the sentence of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, as part of a slew of clemency actions.
Milken, known as the junk bond king in the 1980s, was convicted of securities fraud and served two years in prison in the 1990s. A White House statement called the charges filed against him “truly novel.”
Blagojevich had been serving time on multiple federal corruption convictions related to trying to personally profit from his power to fill the Senate seat vacated by former President Barack Obama.
Among the other pardons Trump issued Tuesday were for former Bernard Kerik, the former New York police commissioner, and former San Francisco 49ers owner Edward DeBartolo Jr.
