The worst performers of the session were JB Hi-Fi Ltd (ASX:), which fell 3.94% or 1.76 points to trade at 42.95 at the close. Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:) declined 3.94% or 0.16 points to end at 3.90 and Cochlear Ltd (ASX:) was down 3.39% or 8.29 points to 236.47.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 665 to 491 and 365 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.51% or 8.05 to $1571.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.39% or 0.69 to hit $50.26 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.60% or 0.85 to trade at $54.12 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.46% to 0.6716, while AUD/JPY rose 0.61% to 73.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 98.752.
