J Sainsbury PLC said Tuesday that it would commit 1 billion pounds ($1.31 billion) over the next two decades toward the goal of becoming a net-zero emissions business.
The U.K. retailer SBRY, -2.72% said the earmarked funds will be used over the next twenty years with a focus on reducing carbon emissions, food waste, plastic packaging, and water usage. The commitment will also include increasing recycling and healthy and sustainable eating.
Sainsbury’s said the commitment will also include working collaboratively with suppliers and encouraging their own carbon-reduction commitments.
